Magnolia nabs 'God Bless America'

Magnolia has acquired worldwide privileges to Bobcat Goldthwaite's dark comedy "God Bless America."Deal was introduced Tuesday in the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. "God" premered Friday in TIFF's Night time Madness section."God" concentrates on a guy, possibly crictally ill, who decides to kill repugnant people of society.Producers are Joel McKittrick and Shaun Culotta. Cassian Elwes and Preferred Content's Kevin Iwashina and Christine D'Souza brokered the offer.Picture stars Joel Murray and Tara Lynn Barr, and it is a Darko Entertainment production written and directed by Goldthwait."God" may be the second collaboration between Goldthwait, Darko and Magnolia/Magnet, who launched "World's Finest Father" last year.Magnetic is planning for a 2012 theatrical release for "God" through Magnolia's Ultra VOD program. The film is Magnet's second acquisition from the Toronto fest following Michael Dowse's raucous hockey comedy "Goon"Murray plays a divorced and depressed guy who's becoming progressively overcome and infuriated through the rampant stupidity that surrounds him."I am a large fan of of Bobcat's films, and incredibly excited to become working together with him again," stated Magnolia/Magnet Leader Eamonn Bowles. "'God Bless America' may be the revenge fantasy to finish all revenge dreams. It is a brilliant skewering of that's wretched in American popular culture and it is his funniest film up to now."
